FAQs – Children’s Dentistry
Do I need to pay anything upfront?
No. At Woden Dental Care, we Bulk Bill all eligible CDBS services. As long as your child is eligible and has a remaining balance on their $1,158 benefit, we process the claim directly through Medicare so there is no out-of-pocket cost to you.
What happens if the treatment costs more than the $1,158 limit?
The $1,158 benefit is quite generous and usually covers all basic preventive care over two years. However, if a complex treatment plan is required that exceeds the remaining balance, our dentists will discuss this with you and provide a clear quote before any work begins.
Does my child need their own Medicare card?
Not necessarily. Your child just needs to be listed on a valid Medicare card (either yours or their own). When you visit us, please bring your Medicare card so we can verify the available balance through our HICAPS terminal.
My child is only 2 years old. Should I start using the CDBS now?
Absolutely! The CDBS covers children as young as 0 (as soon as they are Medicare eligible). Early visits are the best way to prevent dental anxiety and catch any potential issues before they become painful or expensive. We recommend a "Happy Visit" once their first teeth appear.
Can I use the CDBS for braces or teeth whitening?
No. The CDBS is strictly for "basic" and "essential" dental work to maintain oral health. It does not cover cosmetic treatments (like whitening) or specialist orthodontic work (like braces).
What if I don't receive a letter from the government?
Letters are usually sent in January, but they can sometimes be missed or sent to an old address. You don't need the letter to book an appointment! We can check your child's eligibility and remaining balance right here at the clinic using your Medicare details.
